How to Run Call of Duty 1 on Windows 10

  • #1
It's probably a long shot but anyone attempt to get COD1 working on a Window 10 machine? I have physical copy and the multiplayer exe works but singleplayer does not no matter what compatibility mode I put it in.

I get a UAC prompt then no other feed back, no error code or anything just not loading. It might be a DirX issue but seeing if anyone has a work around

Did you choose XP SP3 compat mode and Run as Admin?

A Google search indicates CoD 2 runs this way in W8, after not launching prior.

Also, set compat mode with the actual exe in the game files.

Yes I have tried that, also tried other Compatibly modes like sp 2 and windows 98 within the exe in the game files.

In my Googling i did find this one steam forum but cannot understand what the solution offered meant. maybe someone here could enlighten me? http://steamcommunity.com/app/2620/discussions/0/541907867756686631/

I replied at the bottom

if you mean the extract atiogl bit, it sounds like someone sourced an older driver via a torrent site to extract the OpenGl part of the driver and force the game to use it.

There was such a workaround for the Medal of Honor series when all MoH titles stopped working when Catalyst 5.7 launched. I used it myself, and it worked.

That is a driver specific workaround, but could apply to the OS as well if W10 does not have that older driver in it's database. In fact I'm leaning toward that being the problem since I know it happened with MoH, even though it was ATI that caused it, not MS.

I was refering post :

to this i can play the game now, after reinstall and clicked under option-> local datas -> check for brocken datas, then restart and it should work

Not sure what path he is referring to

i have tried import that .dll file in the game folder.

Doesn't make sense in English as worded, but due to a language barrier he may have meant Local Files>Verify integrity of game cache.

This is something you can do in Steam, but not an option for stand alone disc games.

When you extracted the ogl driver file (DLL mentioned), did you place it in the same directory as the launch exe?

Rename CoDMP to MOHAA and it will work
but you have to start the game by double clicking the MOHAA.... wont open from the steam library or just creat a desktop shortcute of the MOHAA ( CoDMP )

I know it's a old post but if someone is still having problem try openning the task manager and close punk buster apps. For some reason it's blocking the game from starting :)

Has anyone figured out how to play this game on windows 10? I just installed it fine but when i run as administrator it then goes to a black screen with my mouse cursor and stays there blank black screen. Have to press ESC to get out of it.

Hi mate. Try one of these as well. 3rd solution worked for me but I'd highly recommend going from the first one to the second and then if neither of those 2 work go with third.

I couldn't find anyway to make it work. So I installed a Windows 7 virtual box. Now it works fine. Sorry mate, only way I've found.

I know the post is old but does anyone have a solution for CoD United Offensive, its expansion pack? Has the same issue, CoDUO_SP doesn't work, CoDUO_MP works.
